Former Weston College Student Designs Winter Gardens Logo

Weston College has revealed its new logo for the Winter Gardens Pavilion in Weston-super-Mare, after choosing from a selection of designs created by former graphic design student Josh Lewins.

Josh started studying at the College’s sixth form, before progressing onto an extended diploma in graphic design. He then went on to complete a BA (Hons) in the subject at University Centre Weston.

Currently, he is employed in the College’s marketing department as a Graphic Design Graduate Trainee.

He said: “It was an honour to design this logo. It’s surreal to think that less than a year ago I was still studying at the College and now one of my designs is being used for this high-profile and prestigious project!”

Dr Paul Phillips OBE, Principal and Chief Executive of the Weston College Group, said: “I was very impressed by Josh’s designs, which showed great creativity but also an understanding of the Winter Gardens’ iconic style and character.

“The logo design is a massive step forward in re-establishing the venue’s identity, and this new but classic design sums up our goal for the entire development: restoring the building’s features and enhancing what is already there.

“On top of this, having the logo designed by one of our former students displays the talents of our learners, as well highlighting the fact that they are gaining the skills and experience needed to be successful in their future careers.”

The Winter Gardens is on track to reopen in September 2017 and will provide the community with a high quality event and conference spaces, as well as state-of-the-art facilities for the College’s students.
